From Strike the Wok:
With contributions from twenty-nine Chinese Canadian writers, some well established, others recently emerging on the national Canadian scene, Strike the Wok is the first anthology of contemporary Chinese fiction, to be published giving this genre a more concentrated, fuller presence. Three generations of Chinese Canadians, born in Canada, China, and a variety of other countries, present a diversity of themes, styles, locales, and times for a kaleidoscopic view of Chinese/Canadian life from contemporary Canadian perspectives. In her Introduction, Lien Chao notes: "Our bicultural ...,multicultural and multilingual background and our century-long community history make an ever-fertile ground for story-telling. The continuous influx of new Chinese immigrants from all over the world and the active interaction between Chinese Canadians and other cultural groups in Canada provide the most intriguing material for diaspora writing in the age of globalization and in the broader sense of world literature." The collection is dedicated "To All Those Who Came with Their Dreams."
